C for Culottes

Summers have departed, Fall is round the corner and  Winter’14 seems like a yesterdays thing. Honestly I haven’t even put away many of my winter clothes back in the trunk, and its here again! My most favourite season of the year (grinning from ear to ear :D). And while you are busy jotting down things-to-buy, don’t forget to add the ‘it’ piece of the season.

Fall 2015 is the season of revival of trends. Major comeback of 70s fashion has made its way from summer into fall; which also means you don’t have to go through a wardrobe overhaul to keep up with the in-trends. Lets take a moment to THANK GOD for this!

Every season we are handed down a list of fresh jargons. Some choose to learn, some ignore, and some believe in practical application. Just in case you fall in the latter, here is the how to guide on what’s become the silhouette of the season : Culottes!

Culottes: Vero Moda, Trench: Forever New, Croptop: Koovs, Sneakers: Koovs, Bag: Zara, Sunglasses: Stylefiesta, Bangles: Coach, Ring: HM, Watch: Tag Heuer

In simple words Culottes are the cropped wide pants that flare down from thighs and end just below the calf. Though there are different takes on the length of this piece: falling anywhere between just below the knee to just above the ankle.

This particular trend is for all age groups. It might look a little dowdy & unflattering in the beginning, but styling it right is the only trick to pull it off. Don’t be surprised if you and your daughter enter that party in the same silhouette styled in completely different ways! It is indeed a transitional piece that you can style in multiple ways, from a red carpet to a pyajama party.

Lately, i’ve been using all my creativity in recreating this silhouette into innovative avatars. For the blog particularly, this is how I styled my pair. Coupling an earthy tone with pastels & nudes is the safest bet when experimenting with a new trend. I chose a black crop top and layered it up with a summer trench cost, an ideal combo for fall. High top wedge sneakers, bucket bag, and lots of layered jewelry completed this no fuss look.

From Hollywood stars to Bollywood baes, to style icons, socialites, bloggers and fashionistas theres no one who’s not wearing this right now?

  • Just remember: trying out an unfamiliar trend is as easy as pulling on your preferred pair one leg at a time.

At the same time I would like to see your take on the trend! Don’t forget to mail me a picture of you in culottes.

Until then,

Chikky Goenka
